Our winery - Our vineyards
Our DER EINZGE Mario Altan winery offers first-class wines from prime vineyards on historic hillsides near Mörbisch am See in Burgenland. The wines are hand-harvested and selected according to the strictest quality criteria. These are expressive, top-quality wines that provide the ultimate drinking pleasure.
The wines from our winery DER EINZIGE Mario Altan come from the Goldberg vineyard in Mörbisch, where vines have been cultivated for centuries. Here, we primarily cultivate the Grüner Veltliner variety. The Goldberg vineyard is the largest vineyard in Mörbisch am See. Its history dates back to 1382 (documented as "Golthperg"). The vineyard faces east toward Lake Neusiedl and is enriched with excellent mica schist soil, which has excellent water retention properties.
Our winery's vineyards also include the wind-protected Wieser vineyard, where the elegant Muscat Ottonel thrives. This vineyard, too, is located in the Mörbisch am See district and faces the lake. The first documented mention of this equally ancient "Vineyard in the Meadows" dates back to 1381. Here, at the foot of the Mörbisch Goldberg, mica schist also provides excellent growing conditions.
Ried Goldberg is a highly evocative name for high-quality wines from Lake Neusiedl. The Mario Altan winery undoubtedly occupies a prime position here, continuing the centuries-old tradition of winemaking under the highest quality standards and refining it with modern processing methods to create unique products.
Our winery's prime vineyards are "Mörbisch Ried Goldberg," "Mörbisch Ried Wieser," and "Mörbisch Ried Teilung." They all thrive on mica schist, a rock with optimal water retention. Typical grape varieties include Grüner Veltliner, Muskat Ottonel, and Blaufränkisch Rosé (Heart Rosé). The Blaufränkisch variety, in particular, has a distinctively fruity flavor with its delicate blackberry and blueberry notes that will delight anyone.
